Reply with quote | #1 | THANK YOU to Jeff Schoenberg for finally forcing some sense upon Northfield village president John Birkenbine.
The assertion that Northfield wants to, and has the ability to keep Willow road down to two lanes is simply ludicrous. Two lanes is simply more dangerous, not only for those drivers stuck in traffic in Northfield but for all the backed-up feeder routes. Have you ever noticed Waukegan road backed up North and South because traffic cannot proceed East on Willow? Tell me that is not a dangerous situation.
Furthermore, installing traffic cameras at Willow and Wagner does not solve the problem, it compounds it. Studies have shown an INCREASE in accidents at intersections with cameras. The best way to reduce accidents at intersections has been show time and time again to be to extend the duration of the yellow light. The problem for Northfield is that solution does not provide them the revenue they are looking for.
In my opinion this is all about revenue. Northfield doesn't care about the safety of it's drivers or pedestrians. Rather, they are concerned about losing the revenue from traffic tickets along their most profitable corridor.
